Webasto sunroof rear seal- help!

I have replaced the front seal and side brush strips on my sunroof- now, how on earth do I get the rear one out- unlike the front and sides, it is attached to the slider itself. Does this need to come out? Has anyone done this- please share any advice- I want to know what I might be getting in to before I start dissassembling the thing...

It seems impossible to replace that seal while the slider is in place-

Many thanks, my nearly water-tight 108 chassis car thanks you..

JAS

update

Ok, I have done some more research, and yes, it seems the slider does need to come out in order to get at the rear seal.

I have found specifics and directions (with pics) for doing this on a 126 chassis car- I am assuming that my 108 chassis must be similar- the Webasto sliders really haven't changed until the intro of tilting roof feature in later 80's.

This will give me the opportunity to at least clean and re-lube the mechanism while it is apart.

So, does anyone have any 108/109/111-chassis specific advice before the slider comes out...?

Thanks,

JAS

JAS,
I'll will soon need to replace the sunroof seals on a 63' 220s (111). Would you be able to post or email the instructions you found?

Thanks,
Murray

Hiya-

Go to Pindelski-Hofler website- under cars, technical, chassis, there is a picture step by step r&r of a 126 chassis sunroof. While much newer, I think it provides a basic intro to the process of removing the sliders in our older cars. The sunroof M-B used stayed basically the same for awhile.

I will let you know how it went after I pick up a bit of sunroof grease and a new retaining clip for the cable (mine is power-operated).

Wish me luck!

substitute lubricant?

Okay, I am not paying 50 bucks for a tube of sunroof grease from the dealer- what could I use that would be suitable, other than the stuff specified by M-b for the purpose? I imagine it should be something thin, that repels dirt and grit (at least somewhat).

I am waiting for a sunroof cable clip, then I will r&r the rear sunroof seal. Want to clean and lubricate the whole mechanism while I have it apart-

finished

And it works!

Took the bugger apart, did the rear seal, and managed to get the thing back together, and it works beautifully.

If you have any questions while you are doing yours, shoot me a message.

Cheers,

JAS
