Differances between 1977 & 1979 240D?

What are the major differances between the model years 1977 and 1979, on the 240D? If I have read correctly, wasnt there a chasis or some change after the 1977 year?
thanks,
Jim

I think '76 was the cut-off year from the w115 to w123 chassis. Mechanical differences include glow plug electrics, startup idle adjust, engine kill switch and position of oil filter cannister. Engines are not interchangable without alot of adaptation.

I know the 1980 cars had a different interior. Earlier cars had pebble grain, later had leather grain. Headrests are different, elephant ears for early, flat top for late. Tex seams are different width.

I believe in 1979, they changed the glow plug system from the old series to parallel type. Also a cam change around the same time for a couple of more hp.

Other minor changes thru the lifespan iclude three different instrument gage styles, and late cars had cutpile carpet vice loop.
