Spooky Mystery Horn!
Hi Everyone,
Can anyone help with this mystery. On my W114 when I use the combination switch (indicator stalk) to flash the headlights (pulling it towards the steering wheel) my horn goes off also? The horn also works as it should when you press the horn button on the steering wheel center. Do I have some limited edition multi horn system By coincidence, when i push the combination switch to stop the wipers, they do not park, they just stop where they were when the switch is pushed. I am not sure if this all points to a faulty combination switch or something much more sinister. Any advice would be much appretiated. Cheers. P |

Peter,
Horn sounds like a combination switch issue. Wipers could be combination switch, but also the motor may have lost the park function. Will the wipers park if you use the foot pedal for the washers? Jim

Perhaps?
On my old '66 Maserati Quattroporte, the Autoroute horn was sounded by the normal button in the center of the wheel, but the little "toot, toot" city streets horn was sounded by pushing the end of the turn signal switch inward toward the steering column. Were some of these dual horm M-Bs using the same switchgear? I know that most of the parts on the Maserati were available from either Jaguar or German makers' suppliers, when I knew where to look; Maserati, for instance, switched from Marelli dual point V8 distributors to Bosch as soon as M-B introduced the big 600 cars in the late '60s, and I always had a suspicion that the wonderful ZF 5-speed was basically the same as what my cousins in Switzerland had in their Daimler and Scania dump and ready-mix trucks.

Oh, I wish Mercerdes had a town/country horn setup, I love that idea, although the standard sound of a Benz horn is always great. I imagine some of you can probably pick the vintage by sound.
Pooky, I had a similar problem in my w108 where the horn would go off at errant times, usually to great hilarity or shame (very nearly got me into trouble with some guy packing shopping into his boot/trunk once, very funny, in hindsight) Anyway, , I thought it was related to the contacts in the horn ring but it was actually a crossed wire, which just needed isolating, so have a peek around and see what you find. Good luck!

Getting There!
Hi All,
I got my horn sorted. It was a loose horn wire on the combination switch shorting out. One down one to go! My wipers still refuse to park when switched off. Not sure if it is related but my wipers also don't work in the intermitent setting. I saw in the manual wiring that there is a intermitent wiper relay, could this be causing the problem. Does anyone know where this is? Cheers, Peter. |

I have the town and country horn switch on my 560SEL
Rocker switch on console between the seat heater rocker switches. Jim

if you have a foot pump windshield washer...
Not sure if its the same on the w114... but on my 108 if the wiper connecter on the windshield foot pump is disconnected the wipers shut of wherever you leave 'em. Plug the foot pump back in and All is back to normal.
