Spindle nut socket
I am trying to inspect my rear bearings, due to a noise, and also I have no idea when they last got any attention.
But I need to get the slotted spindle nut off, and can't find a wrench/socket to fit it. Well that's not entirely true. I have found it on the web for about $65. I don't really want to pay that for a socket I'm gonig to use twice. Anyone know where I could get something that would work, or am I gonig to have to make something that will do well enough? The MB part number is 115 589 02 07 00. I have found one made by Sir Tools part number M 0027. OD is 54.75mm ID 48.25mm http://shoptoolsshoptools.com/shopexd.asp?id=1051 |

get the special socket...still cheaper than taking it to a mechanic. get yourself a really big breaker bar too; that nut is tight. be sure you know what you're getting into for that nut sets the preload on the rear bearings. if you do in fact need rear wheel bearings, do a search...it's not the easiest of jobs especially if you don't have a lift.
