A Trip to the Kemp Auto Museum (Chesterfield, MO).

My family and me were recently visiting my inlaws in St Louis and we spotted the Kemp Auto Musuem very near to where we were staying in Chesterfield. I stopped in but the museum was "closed" since they were preparing to host a big event for the American Heart Association so they had to move all of the cars out to the restoration shop as they had requested only a couple of cars be displayed (300SL gullwing for one).

I was really disappointed and explained to the receptionist I was only there for another day and told them what I MB buff I was so they allowed me to tour the restoration shop which was jam packed with great vintage Benzes along with some other notable brands (a Rolls, Porsche and other odds and ends). Anyway, I had a great visit with the head restorer and here's some photos including me next to my dream car, a 600 limo. If you're ever passing through St. Louis be sure to drop in on the museum and check out the collection.

i bought it with fifty thousand miles, for five hundred, drove it up to one hundred twenty thousand and sold it for three hundred.

That beige one was a 190d and was in beautiful condition. They didn't have any 220 sedans from the 60's, that was the only fintail.

They had a W123 230CE coupe which was a nice euro, with manual AC and cloth seats and a manual tranny too. A real unusual euro spec car with AC. It was just fun to see all these different models of different eras all in one place.

I really REALLY like that black Limousine! <drool> I'd love to cruise around town in that...

Fred Kemp was a local homebuilder who made LOTS of money and collected MB cars. My understanding is that he had Alzheimers and planned for years to build this museum. I believe he died before it opened but his widow made sure to go through with opening it. The shop where I work did work on several of his cars, including a bare Gullwing shell that we painted, never saw it as a complete car.
