braking and stalling - vacuum related 108w?

Ok, pretend I know little about car engines other than what I read on the forum.

I got the 280s 1969. Car starts up a little slowly but runs fine. Drives well but stalls even when warm when stopping.

someone has said that this is related to the vacuum pressure from the brake (yes there is an occassionaly whooshing sound on braking) and how it connects to the solex carb.

Can someone help me out on what to look for to diagnose this annoying problem.

to rule out the booster, you can disconnect the vacuum line to the booster and plug the end of it. then go drive it, (keep in mind you'll be driving without power assist.) if the stalling stops, then your booster is bad.

I've got a bad booster on my 77 450SEL, and did the same experiment to check on whether a vacuum leak could cause overheating (It wasn't a factor). The car ran fine with the vac line plugged, and my brakes weren't no different - because my booster is toast. [Fortunately I'm a big guy, and it really doesn't bother me too much].

I'm wondering if you've possibly got a torque converter issue in your transmission (if a TC solenoid or relay fails, it's kind of like trying to drive a manual out of 4th gear; it stalls out). I hope you DON'T have this issue, but the thought does occur.

Thanks but I am pretty sure I do not have torque converter issue. its all carb related. when i brake it either floods or is choked out. I ran it today. Starts easy runs strong for a few minutes - i then notice a lower rpm idle kick in. and then would be the easy to stall issue. I noticed also that the valve closer to firewall does not spring back to position - like the big valve in the forward carb. see pics
