Black smoke

Wile driving on the freeway around 50mph, I floored and it nicely kicked into 3rd gear. The engine revved to about 5500 rpm and I saw black smoke in the rear view mirror. I did it later again and it was the same. There is no visible smoke on the startup cold or hot. Doesn't burn oil. However, if the car is idling, and is up against a wall you can see black stuff that came out of the exhaust on that wall. It might be running too rich, but could that be the cause of the black smoke during strong acceleration at high rpm? Any thoughts or comments? It's euro specs. M116.

Thanks, Vilius.

You need to drive more on the freeway and faster than 50 mph. What you're seeing is carbon build-up being expelled from the exhaust.

D-Jet will do that, especially when you gun it. You do keep your cruise speeds around 70 on the highway at least, right? I used to never have my 4.5 under 80. These cars need to be driven fast, for prolonged periods, to clean up carbon buildups.

Thanks for responding. Actuly the car wasn't on the freeway for over two weeks, but was driven daily in heavy LA city traffic. Hope that's the problem. When it's on the freeway it's always over 65. It doesn't go any slower :D.
