Crew -
Yesterday I spent some time on the locked-up 280C engine getting it ready to pull. With the radiator out, I was able to put a socket on the crank. It will rotate back and forth about 20 degrees and then not budge. It stops with a clunk, not just increasing resistance. What does this suggest to you as a problem? Previously, I had thought that it was seized, but now I am thinking a bent rod. CTH suggested a timing chain problem. Any other ideas? TIA Chuck |

I'd think timing chain. The "clunk" and cease of motion indicate interference, probably from a valve, or valves, making contact with a piston.
Question is...how bad did the valves beat the piston tops before the motor stopped spinning?
