Provenance with your car?

I was trying to make heads or tails of some of the more "interesting" repairs done to my car, and I found a treasure trove of cool things.

I knew I had the original owners manual, but I was pleased to find...

A copy of the original title

The original Owner's Service and Warranty Policy (Passenger Cars - Domestic)

All of the manuals for the original Becker Europa and it's dealer installed tape deck

A booklet from the US Department of Transportation, dated 2/71 titled "Read Before Driving." Its got helpful hints such as "If you need glasses for driving, wear them."

A "New Car Pre-Delivery Inspection."

A "Directory of Mercedes-Benz Dealers in the United States" (April 15, 1972)

A note from the original owners with a note detailing 10 things they wanted done with their first service with Mercedes Benz of Manhattan. They asked to "please install the engine coolant heater as per order entered 11/28". Also - the "left rear window operation, impossible to operate properly."

Sadly - I never did find a receipt for the mis-installed timing chain...

Ann

Remember, Ann, "Keep your car in good shape"! And driving on the wrong side of the road is one of the six frequent causes of crashes!

My list includes the read before driving booklet (obviously), 2/71, and the Merc lit:
Owner's Manual
Maintenance booklet
Owner's Emission Systems Manual
Owner's Service and Warranty Policy - including Quicksilver's chassis number (the whole vin, perforated through the whole booklet). Mmm, 12 months or 12,000 miles. I think my warranty is over?
Catalog >>B<< (parts book # 12 803) which has a schematic of pretty much every 108 part ever made
Usage, Maintenance and Operating Instructions for the KANGOL belts.

That book must be something that everyone got with their new car in 1971 and 1972 because Tom has one too.

Another piece of sage advice...

"Keep vent or window open to minimize carbon monoxide, especially if smoking."

Um, I often drive in my car with the window closed. I didn't know that was bad. My parents did too, and my mom smoked like a chimney in the car as well.

Even better

"Never leave small children unattended in cars with power windows with the key in the ignition."

Not that someone will kidnap your children or that kids will accidently (on purpose) start the car, but that they will operate the windows?

Life was a lot simplier before car jackings and cell phones.

I have parts catalog >>A<< too. Must have been standard issue with the car.

But Tom has the Kangol seatbelt manual. I'm in awe

Ann
who got her wiring harness from Germany today, Yay!

On older cars without the anti-pinch feature the power windows are sufficiently powerful to kill small children by strangulation. Google it, it has happened.

Because older MBs don't have a shift interlock it is best not to leave children in the car at all. They can move the shift to neutral at any time, with or without the car, and the car can roll away.

Not Kangol belts then?

I'm still in awe that you have that.
