RR Marketing tips from owner.

I really do not know so will just have to test waters. I plan to formally advertise in some other venues as well. I can't forget that it does have some history that might make it more collectable being it was owned by the late David Janssen
Ron:

Just got off the phone with my friend with the '89 Silver Spur LWD and explained your situtation a little bit and here are his thoughts as best as I can remember:

The market for Clouds is just about to take off. "Their time has come", he said. They are selling right now from a low of about $20,000 to about $60,000-$90,000 for one that is in mint condition, so the prices vary widely.

Yours should sell from $20,000- $35,000 unrestored, and as he thinks the market will go up the next 4-5 years for them, it might be worth thinking about fixing all the issues it has, and then keeping it for about 4-5 years before selling it, as an option. If it is in pretty good shape and unmolested, you might get $35,0000-$40,000

If the celebrity ownership is documented, it will definately help the price.

Putting ads in Autotrader, Craigslist, and places like that will attract a lot of lookie- loos, tire kickers and time-wasters, and is not a good idea in his opinion. You need to access only the serious, informed and focused buyers.
They will likely want to have it inspected.

Best bet would be to put a good advertisement in Hemmings Motor News, or the Rolls Royce Club's magazine, "The Flying Lady".

I think he said that the website for the RR club is www.rroc.org or similar. To put an ad in their magzine I think you have to belong to the club, so you would have to join for a least a year, which would cost $80, or so, but still worth it to access the buyer you'd need.

I think he said a mint '65 Cloud with about 47-67,000 miles on it could fetch around $54,000 or so (as an example).

OK 220 sold, 450 working well, winter approaching and I am thinking of jumping into this project, current owner will finance repairs. Anyone know of a forum for rolls, kinda like this one or someone I can get started with. (other than the RR club, which I might have to join ) I have no experience with this car, but have read they are pretty straight forward mechanically. This car is sound, I would not do the paint but would tackle interior and engine myself as well as under carriage
I just need some cyber buddies, any ideas?
BTW the picture is the movie star , David Janssen standing by this car , so I was able to sustanciate that it was his.

Cool website with stars and their cars. I liked this one with Robert Wagner and his W111.

Further to that, I can absolutely assure you that the California black plate shown on the photo, RSB 033, is a Southern California late 1965 alphanumeric issue, which matches its provenance, (a 1965 Roller from So Calif,) perfectly.

Those are the first plates the car would have had on it, at the time the car was new and first registered in California.

It is proof of celebrity provenance, also. That photo makes a good find, and increases the value of the car for resale. Unarguable, proven, celebrity ownership always helps in selling a used luxury car.

I am pretty sure that the Webmaster here, W. Hunter, is quite familiar with these cars and has worked on them, if you PM him I bet he could point you in the right direction.

I don't know any forums, but here are a couple.

This one isn't too busy though.

thanks gang, I have located an experienced mechanic about 100 miles from me, I am goign to talk to him about the next steps, thanks also for the links they will be helpful. Fired her up last night and it is a blast to drive. You just have to anticipate corners , nearly a full turn of the massive steering wheel before it actually feels like you are turning.
Thanks for the info on the plate Jim
