Hello All

I Did It

I bought a 1967 110 200D on Sunday!
This was advertised in the Trader online for quite some time with "new engine" and such. My Trek took me to St Petersburg, FL., 80 miles from homeport. I arrived to find the car is fair condition but it has rusty floors. The owner proceeded to tell me about the previous owner rebuilding the engine and showed me receipts totaling more than 3K for pistons rings the standard rebuild stuff. The Rebuild was less than 1500K miles. Also the owner had put a new exhaust system, clutch, plate and bearing, clutch slave and master. Brakes, just a ton of stuff I took it for a ride and it ran good, deadly slow but smooth. The best part came when I offered him $1000 for the car, and to my surprise, he took it I Drove it 82 miles back to home base, and that where it sits this morning. The Floors are the first thing I want to take on. Any input on how to DYI or past experiances are welcomed! I have to cange my profile now!
Regards,
Bryan

First, my condolences. It just had to be a 200D, you couldn't find a 180D? :)

Last year, the veterans list had rolling updates from a fellow in Washington state that redid his 114 sedan. Find his posts and take his advice to hart.

You're going to learn how to weld. Be to remove the fuel lines before you launch the car into orbit.

Another interesting thread on the vets list is from a fellow that was cleaning his gas tank and caused it to go foom. That's a good one for everybody to read. No animals were harmed in the perpetration of that story.

Congratulations on acquiring an obviously well-loved car.

Can't wait to see your next addition - perhaps it's time for a two-seater!

Probably a good idea to find out why the floors rusted in the first place - seals, clogged drainage, etc.

First off, the 200D is Slow enough
Second: I know how to weld, I'm originally from Detroit, The rust capitol of the midwest
Funny, I launched an old GM pickup saddle tank in to orbit once...once
Chuck I'm gonna need more room here at home base before I get any more projects! They just posted "no parking" signs on my side of the street. and I have 4 cars

Bryan

Gotta love that old vertical drum speedometer. You may not know exactly how fast you are going, but it sure looks cool!
Also, probably the only car in the neighborhood with an oil bath air cleaner.

Bryan,
Congradulations on your new 'Finnie'.
In light of the current fuel prices it should be very thrifty. (Here in Virginia, diesel sells for about 20-25cents less than regular gas).
In the past, I've recycled galvanised steel building ducts into car floors. I've either screwed or riveted them in as galvanized is difficult to weld and I've seen welded repairs rust with a vengeance.
Good Luck,
Mark

Bryan,

The car you recently bought and displayed in your signature looks identical to the 1968 200D (last year model) my father is currently spending his time with...it even looks like it has the same color.
My father sold this car in 1980 after which the "new" owner started to restore the car until he had to remove the car out of its garage last year and my father bought it back.
The car is going to the repainter this week (stripped completely, so no glass, interior, doors, hood or trunk lid) and it will probably be rebuild with a W201 200D engine (my father is considering to make this a daily driver).

good luck & greetingz,
