Is It Vintage?

i think so. a 1987[manufactured 10/86] 560SEC.

my mechanic's crew broke this part. 126-690-15-30.

which they tell me that they cannot acquire. no longer available so they tell me.

can anyone here tell me where and how i might find this part.

all ears.

You'll have to do much, much better than that albertchampion.

1) 1987 SEC is not vintage - yet. Irrelevant anyway, because you can ask this question anywhere and someone will try to help.
2) You have got to do more if you want help than toss out a part number say "where do I get it?" We don't know what it is or where it goes. WE NEED A NAME FOR THE PART OR A GOOD DESCRIPTION AS TO WHAT IT DOES.

You help us, we help you. It's that simple.

yes, i recognize that i have transgressed.

but, my mechanic broke a piece that he says is now unavailable. i am sort of pissed because otherwise this 560sec is so cherry.

the piece is the driver side, blue, seat belt retractor housing.

oh, it could be glued back together possibly, but, this vehicle is otherwise a driving concours and i would like to preserve it that way, if possible.

and i always accept help.

thnx for your indulgence.

I would call the Mercedes Classic Center in California and ask them how to get that piece. Your other alternative is to find an SEC that someone is parting out and buy it from him.

What happened to it? Did the housing crack?

Confused?

If your mechanic broke it, let him/her do the work and find a replacement. Why is it your problem ?

POS 07-25-2007 09:12 AM

I have a great mechanic - if he "broke" a piece like that on my car, I'd attribute it to age more than his carelessness. If it's the mechanic's problem or not depends on how honest he is.

plastic parts break with age.
There are wrecking yards listed in Hemmings that will supply you the part and for a rather nasty price.

I hope your mechanic has deep enough pockets.

yes, age probably has something to do with the fracture. they were replacing the retractor motor and i think that one of his helpers became less than gentle.

they tried to locate the part. but the classic center says it isn't available.

and it isn't that noticeable. only to my eye that knows this vehicle way too well.

if you know the c126, you recognize that the retractor housing is at least a two piece affair, with a plastic plate on the window side glued to the major plastic housing.

though this 95,000 miler is very cherry, it is not concours. and could never be. i still drive it. and drive it hard.

i just put this issue up here because i hoped that someone might have a good clue as to how to find this odd part.

thnx for your suggestions.

On the SEC coupes

Small consolation, but for some reason it is very common for those to crack on the SEC

Gtroll the junkyards and hope you can get one in the right color.
