Some threshold questions.

1. For a low mileage car (61,000) how come the car was reupholstered?
The seats did not come that way from the factory.

2. Where is the hardtop?

3. Why did the owner put a 1986-87 SL third brake light on it?

4. How come the car was debadged?

5. With the 3 & 4 modifications, was the car repainted; if so, why?

6. If so, why in that color? Was it originally black? What does the build plate say its original color was? I don't think that black/palomino was the a factory color combo that year for those. It is very strange to see that.

7. The aftermarket wheels look tacky and strange. The people who modded, painted, and reupholstered this had some bizarre preferences.

8. This dealer is supposed to be a very good one. Why are they selling a mildly tarted up car like this?

9. There must be a lot of "stories" with this. How come it is being sold at a white glove dealer like this? I would think they would only sell stock, unmolested cars. This one should be at one of those low rent "Buy here, Pay here" places with colored pennants flapping in the wind.

I'd bet this car has NO books and records. With something this strange, you would need them from day one. It would only appeal to someone with the EXACT preferences that the person who modified it had.

A purist would run away in horror from this, I would bet.

As soon as I saw the new interior and the badges gone, I was done with this car. I chase low-mileage original cars - not redone ones that pose as low-mileage examples.

Sometimes a glance is all it takes to spot a toad.

Well for starters, it's either a euro, or it's had euro bumpers installed. And you do see the two-tone upholstery occasionally on euro cars.

I think you guys are being too hard on it. Some of the aesthetics, non-original stuff, and add-ons aren't to my taste, but the basic car does look pretty good. It's overpriced, but not outrageously so.

I will say that I have seen a lot worse cars offered in that price range.

I don't like it. I was just showin you guys this car. Thought maybe one of you would be interested. It looks like it's been restored. Could this be a lower model and de-badged with higher end stuff? I was lookin at a 1998 mustang cobra but I checked the VIN and it was a plain gt. Just put cobra badges on it. Could this Mercedes be the same?

Not sure what you mean by lower model, in '74 only a 350 & 450 were available worldwide, with specified options. They look like Euro bumpers but with overriders added. If you're interested in the car spec (and you seem to be) then see if you can get the full chassis number !

That's just a palomino interior that's been painted black in parts. Including the seats.

Like lower in class. Like the c-class is a lower end model then the s-class so ya thats what i meant. where there different class models back then? I'm new to the benz world and know pretty much nothing about them.
