Lubrication system questions
I posted a while back about putting my 1967 2 liter MB diesel in my bulldozer. Going pretty good so far. I cant find a way to block of the oil filter ports without restricting oil flow to both. I had it rigged up so i had all the holes bypassed, leaked however and i want to try and dead head it. I know theres a lot of people who hate dead heading so dont flame me too much.
But my question..do these engines have the oil circulating to the filter then the components, or to filter back to oil pan? If it just circulates, im going to dead head it and add a different filter down the line somewhere. Oh, the reason i need to get rid of it is because it wont fit in the frame of the tractor without cutting some structural bits of it, would look funny too. I know on the old engine, it did not have an oil filter (it was bypassed) and i just changed the oil more frequently. Wanting to know if i can do that with this diesel engine. Any help would be great! Anthony |

I believe it is pan to pump to filter to engine.
If you run it without a filter you could get dirt of metal fragments in your bearings. I wouldn't. Tom W

I was going to add a filter later some how. Is there any other ports besides the filter?
Wal-Do you mean that by blocking off the ports, i effectively cut off oil flow to the other parts of the engine or does it go back to the pan? ALSO..any seconds to walgamuth's description? Thanks for replying so quickly. |

Since you must connect the 2 oil holes in the block somehow, otherwise no oil will reach the intended parts, why not fabricate a thick plate to cover the holes and plumb 2 hoses to the oil filter mounted remotely.

alright ill make a new plate so that i can have a oil pressure line in there too. Does anyone know what kind of bolts were holding the filter on? I cant find anything and they look like an oddball thread. The old ones are broke off now and cant be used
