108.016 vacuum insight needed
I'm looking for some insight into what I should have vacuum wise under the hood of my 1970 280S (108.016).
For starters, the vacuum throttle control on the rear carb is disconnected. Nada. There is a vacuum line from the rear carb to a square box on the right fender. This box has a rubber air filter thingy on the top. The line from the carb is going into a nipple which is at the top also, but perpindicular to the nipple the filter is connected to. Below this is a nipple with a short piece of vacuum line attached, but it goes nowhere. Then there is the round vacuum control thing next to the aforementioned box, with a vacuum line from the top of it going to the flat side of the vacuum advance module on the dist, a line going from the bottom center of the round vacuum module going to the retard side of the dizzy and then a line going from the bottom of the module, next to the retard line (in the center) which goes to the front carb. So what SHOULD I have? Anything to the tranny? Thanks! |

Usually three takeoffs
Hi
'usually' you have three take offs for vacuum, 1) distributor advance 2)Accesories (door locks etc) and 3) transmission modulator (assuming it's an auto. I have a fourth which is for the EFI on my 3.5 I'm not sure what engine you have (never bothered learning MB chassis codes) so if you could let us know... J |

inline 6 gasser
Sorry, this other site I used to visit but can't remember the link to now only went by chassis codes...they were pretty particular about it.
My car is the 6 cylinder inline carbureted model with dual Zeniths. I ordered the MB technical CD for my model last week, so hopefully it'll shed more light than the haynes. I know I have a 3 way switch that is controlling the ignition curve, I'm just not sure if it's hooked up correctly. next to it is a 2 way switch which has one vacuum line hooked up to it, which I also tee-d off to the carb dashpot since it was simply missing. Hopefully this will help, I'm mostly concerned with the proper routing of hoses from the 3 way switch to the distributor since I still have the retard and advance hooked up (for now). Thanks!
