what's this part?
 

OK, I know i'm gonna get flamed for asking this before I ask, but what is the hose that goes from the top of the head, bends at at right angle then enters the air filter cover called?

Mine has cracked and spews a bit...I know it's got something to do with recirculating the crankcase vapors.

Is this a local auto parts part or something more MB shop oriented?

It's just a crankcase vapors recovery hose. It pulls the fumes and any blow-by into the air filter and is entered into the intake system to be burned.

Nothing special about it. Any emissions tubing or hose will do.
