'72 250 - Transmssion slipping (??)

Just started noticing a delayed shift pattern around the time my car is supposed to shift from 2nd to 3rd and then from 3rd to 4th (probably most noticeable when going from 3rd to 4th around 40 mph). RPM's increase and car just doesn't want to shift for a second.

Changed a lot of the fluid during my recent engine rebuild, but the filter and existing fluid have very few miles on them as I changed it all out several years ago - but probably less than 5000 miles ago. I have also replaced the vacuum modualtor within about the same time frame. Any thoughts? It feels a little like a vacuum problem, but I'm not sure???

Almost sounds like either the vacuum from the back of the intake manifold is not hooked up or the linkage between the 2 carburetors is not hooked up and not creating enough vaccuum...

Checked the intake manifold connection - and I have checked for vacuum leaks in general and have found none. Not exactly sure how to check the modulator itself, unless you pull the line to it and check for tranny fluid.

Is there a link between the front carb and the rear? do they both move at the same time? I ran into a problem similar to yours when they where not connected.

Typicaly when the modulator erupts, it starts to suck in tranny fluid and causes smoke when you drive. I've never experianced this, maybe others can chime in...

Yea Munich, I read that post just earlier today - not sure about what bolts you are talking about. Mine also shifts much better when I let up on the accelerator. Driving it tonight I noticed that the shift was worse between
2nd and 3rd - around 20-30 mph. Shifts when I let up on the gas pedal.

not sure about what bolts you are talking about

The valve body is above the tranny filter. The pictures show 11 bolts.
The valve body attaches to the control valve housing upper unit.
2. ""hex head bolts for the
control valve housing upper/lower member"= 5.8 ft/lbs (or 0.8 MKP)

And this quote, from another post:

well over 150 views not one thing about the tranny
what a waste of time
I don't know **** about mercedes and I figured out
what the problem was with NO help from this list

Blown out seal on the valve body

fixed and on the road
