1973/450sl Pertronix upgrade

I had the Pert unit installed back in May 2007. The car ran fine. I decided in August to inflate my tires w2ith a compressor thru the cig lighter and fried the Pert unit. I took the car to my indie ,who said I reversed the polarity of the system. Note all elecrical equiptment operates a normal. He got the car started by reinsatalling the points and consider. I drove the car home (ran real bad) The car would not start. I fiddled with and replaced both ballast resistors and changed the coil. The car started but ran very rough. I decided to install a new Pertronix unit and flamerthrower coil. I followed the directions and now she won't start. Iremoved the distributor to line up the rotor with the HT lead for the no.1 spark plug. I got the timing mark to line up as close as I coul to the timing pionter. I did not remove the no.1 spark plug. Could this be my problem?
