rear window glass 250sec

Hey guys,
does anyone have an idea on where to find a rear window for the nice and rare w111 250se coupe? Yeah, it got smashed by some friggin punks last night. My wife says "oh thank god it wasnt my car" referring to the 95 220 and not in a selfish way but thinking the 95 is a more valuable car somehow... She missed the big picture here.

thanks, opossum

Ouch! Sometimes I'm tempted to think that the punishment handed out in certain Middle Eastern countries ain't so bad. I've bought some vintage stuff from Miller's if I had to have it and didn't want to hunt around much. http://www.millermbz.com/
I'd also check with a local auto glass shop. Sometimes auto glass, even for the classics, can be ordered from one of their suppliers and you pay only what a typical windshield would cost.

Thanks Rusty,
I sent millers an email..we'll see what they can provide. I've been through all the local yards for other things for this car and have had no luck. If anyone has any other ideas or are holding one I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks again, Opossum

These guys have been doing concours level work on the W111 for at least a couple of decades. Give them a call as I am certain they would definately have a lead on the glass - if not, the very window you need right there in the shop.

Best of luck,

A member of our fintail email group has a bunch of w111 coupes and should have that glass. Email me directly and I'll give you his info. austinado16 at cs dot com

I've got a w110 back glass if that's the same.....but I don't believe it is.

The dealers can still get these glasses and they are not all that costly all things considered. $300-$350 brand new from them. They may be more trouble to hunt down any other way with shipping costs and hassles, etc...so you might just try them out and see what they say.

Just got off the phone with the folks at Silver Star Restorations. They've got the back-glass for 250.00. He'll build a crate and get it out the door to you so that will factor in handling and shipping charges as well. So I don't know if you've found another lead on the glass or not, but there you go.

Bear in mind, if you haven't already, shipping glass anywhere in the world implies no gaurantees as to survivability enroute. Even from glass manufacturers.

As far as I have known, Silver Star has done more full concours restorations on the 111 coupes than any other shop. They have a very serious collection of spare parts and parts cars specific to the 111.

Yeah, I know that it is different...I ran a quickie PN on the 111 coupe glass and found it lists for around $350 and is available...not sure if it is exactly the one he needed so I didn't post a PN for it.

I also suggested the dealer because that way the risk of it breaking in transit is not yours...they have to deliver it to you unbroken. Ordering it mail order means you accept the risk of paying $250 plus shipping for a box of shards.

Well, I had hoped I had made that point, actually. That rear glass is tempered, too and will do what tempered glass likes to do when broken. If the piece is available for 350.00 from the dealer network, I'd say that's the least costly route all the way around.

Thanks so much everyone. I havent gotten any replies from the emails I had sent to the guys previously mentioned...I guess sometimes phones rule eh? So thanks sincerely for the info. Because my deductible is 500 bucks and I still need the rubber I think I'll just call up the dealer tomorrow. As you all said, it seems to be the least risky and easiest. If something crazy happens I'll keep you all posted.

adios and cheers,
Opossum

PS, if someone has the part numbers for the glass and rubber I'd appreciate it. Just want to make sure they order the right things. Thanks!

If you're anywhere near LI, I have at least two of them. The rear glass only breaks when somebody does it on purpose. They're not a high demand item. You're welcome to come by and collect one. No clue how to ship it and get it there safely. Drop me an email. -CTH

Might help to know where you are located since this is not an item that is easily shipped.

Cool,
The dealer here says no problem so I'm just going to take it down there. They can look at the dammage to the chrome too. I just gotta suck it up and pay the deductible...Effing punks.

thanks for the help, Opossum
