Does anyone know why on the W116s the wipers lay on top of each other and when they are used they have a "flopping" motion to them? Also. why are the wipers on the R107's backwards?

Rick,

The wipers are engineered this way to reduce wind lift at autobahn speeds. I personally think they are superior to the typical designs (such as those on a 123).

I always thought that MB created this wiper-system in this way to have the driver’s side double wiped (with both wipers) and the passenger’s side only once...
I have never looked at the right-handed models to see if they have the wipers mirrored though.

greetingz,

I have heard the reduction of wind lift reason before, for the wipers to be on top of each other. What is the reason for the SLs to have wipers that wipe the opposite direction. If anyone has noticed, Porsche 911s also have wipers that are backwards. Well at least the older 911's, I don't know about the newest 911.
