Sticking throttle

Hi

I have a beautiful w123 230 1976 (115 engine), automatic, stromberg 175CD carb. (300 000 km), Carb rebuild 6-8 years ago (70 000km ago)

The throttle mechanism is not falling back to rest on the idle speed screw - but will go back if pushed. The governer (modulator) is not causing this as it is right out of the way. It is idling at 850 rpm when pushed down but about 1000 if not pushed (in neutral). Is there a common cause for this? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Any help would be appreciated ...

Col

Could be a...

worn out throttle return spring. 32 years old, and many of cycles of motion.

Or, see my post about re-bushing the bellcrank shaft. My plastic bushings were gone.

How's the rubber silent block on accelerator linkage? Seen this on my 280/8 where rubber separated from metal plate.

Lube the linkage pivot points with ATF.

Perhaps your cumulative resistance in the linkage is greater than your spring.

Lube it, and if you still have a problem, add another spring.
