Advice on '68 300sel 6.3

I have owned my 1968 euro version 300sel 6.3 for about 4 years now. I am now planning a restoration of my car, as of course my car is rusty. I have another 300sel 3.5 with a perfect body, but bad engine. This will be the donor body for my car. In either event, my question is: Who can rebuild my injection pump? My car does not have many miles on it, but the pump suffered from being stored and started on bad fuel, and regardless, after this many years, it's time to rebuild it.

Any advice greatly appreciated

advice (cheap type)

The body rust restore will cost 5-8k, interior 4-5k
Sell or scrap for parts the 6.3, fix the 3.5
drive it and enjoy the air ride.

I bought a rust-out 6.3 and scrapped the body for parts for my 300SEL 6.3 and 4.5's

The 113 crowd likes Pacific Fuel Injection for pump rebuilds.

Gus at Pacific fuel injection can rebuild them. He deals with all the mechanical IP's, mostly early porsches and diesels, the operation is the same no matter what (except between diesel and gas). Diesel has a 2-d cam and the gas has 3-d (tapered). Lots of little parts but it is nothing more than a little engine run backwards. 8 little cylinders to pump fuel.

The resulting car from your hard work won't be worth a 6.3 value wise when you go to resell it. You may be able to fetch 3.5 value for it. m100 owners are typically big on originality and want to make sure the VIN matches the vehicle. Which it won't on a 3.5 that's had an engine swap. Just so you know! Personally, I'd fix both cars rather than swapping stuff.

Where in TX are you and where is the rust on your 6.3? I have some rust free 300SEL body panels from a 4.5 that may be suitable for your restoration. It would be a real shame to break up a 300SEL 3.5 which is a great car and I personally hate the thought of scrapping a 6.3.

I'm in Dallas TX.

get a used 3.5 motor and sell that one to pay for the repair of the 6.3.

Since you have both cars handy, can you get a tape measure and figure out the position of the axle center on the two cars relative to the nose and tail? Presumably the 6.3 has the axle positioned differently.

Not that I would ever suggest it, but what is to stop him from transferring the VIN and engine from the 6.3?

The problem with M-100 owners is that they are really particular about that. I remember a 300SEL 4.5 with a 6.3 liter drive train conversion being sold here in Dallas. The seller badged it on eBay as a 6.3 and got bombarded with Emails because of inconsistence in the conversion.

Rust repair isn't that bad, I have bought back a rusty M-100 and it didn't cost the earth. Wodnek recently bought a rusty 6.9 from an unsavory fellow which he is currently restoring.
