My New Toy - 1978 240D

Woohoo, I finally got one! Pictures are soon to come...
My new toy arrived in the midst of an Iowa ice and snow storm. I bought a 1978 Mercedes 240D
She's a California girl too.
Spent close to a year before I decided to go with this one. It's not perfect by any means but it's very clean and appears to be pretty well taken care of. The mileage is stuck at 141,000 miles but it seems that the actual isn't all that far off from where it locked up. All the paperwork seems to show that it stopped within the last year.
So anyhow, I picked it up last week from the transport company I used to ship from CA to IA. The transport went well. I used DAS and was very pleased. I know they aren't the least expensive but they did a great job for me.
The car is red with a light colored tan interior. The paint is a bit faded as is the interior. The dash is free of and cracks which seems to be kind of hard to find. Things are a bit dirty under the hood. Mostly just road grime etc.
I checked all the fluids and decided to add some oil. It was pretty cold here this morning and she started right up. Kind of klunky sounding until things warmed up under the hood. After about 10 mins. of letting her warm up I took to the road. The klunky sound was still there but went away after just a mile or so. Perhaps this is just due to the cold weather??? I pulled into a gas station and topped off the tank with some fresh fuel. I have a lot to learn. This is my first MB and my first diesel too!
When I got back home I noticed what appeared to be anti freeze dripping from somewhere underneath. Not sure what the deal is there. I guess I'll have to trace the dripping in the morning. Hope this is just a loose hose but we'll have to see.
I'll post pics tomorrow. Inspite of the leak I'm still very excited my new toy finally arrived.

Congrats, Airstream. I took my time before buying anything as well. This place has been a real benefit in helping me to know where to start, what to expect, and finding like-minded friends who can helo me out of a jam every now and then. That's not to even mention it's been a lot of fun.

Good luck with your 240D!

Hey Joey...I'm down in the SE corner of the state near Fort Madison. Where are you from?
