w108 Ignition switch removal

Hi my 280se 3.5 ignition switch has a separate starter button installed. It's a mod that was done long before I owned the car. I have a replacement switch assembly but am not sure how to go about swapping them over. Could anyone advise me on the sequence?

Pull the instrument cluster and kick panel for access. Tumbler is removable and will be interchangable with new ignition switch. You set the key in #1 position then rotate and poke the inner ring with tiny screwdriver to pull the tumbler - but do this after disconnecting the steering lock. Pulling the ign switch from steering lock will involve couple of bolts underneath. In my day, have replaced both steering locks and tumblers but NOT the ignition switch. Hope this helps, others will fill in the blanks with better advice than i can give.. Welcome to the Vintage Forum.
