W110 wiper assembly

The drivers side Stalk? shaft? Is frozen and I broke the threaded end off in an attempt to free it up. Any way how do I remove the wiper assembly? So I can repair or Replace it. The car is a 64 190C fintail. by the way I am happy to have found this forum. The car is my sons and I am helping him with the restoration. I am a meber of the IH8mud forum for my 85 Land Cruiser. It has been invaluable and this forum appears to be really good as well.

Hi George,

The entire wiper assembly was one of the first things that sold from the
car, I didn't have to pull the dash to remove it, but I will say it does
involve a bit of patience and being flexible helps. To get the motor out
you have to remove the 3 motor bolts on the firewall under the hood and
pull it back, then remove the snap clip and slide the linkage off the
motor pin.. I don't believe you can remove just one post, as the
assembly is riveted together if memory serves me right. To get the
entire linkage assembly out, you need to remove the 2 arms, chrome post
nuts and washers, then working under the dash you need to loosen the
10mm bolts by the posts (2 at each post) holding a flat strap like
looking piece of metal on, which is part of the support for the
assembly, it all comes out as one piece. It makes it much easier to
access th post bolts if you remove the glove compartment and instrument
cluster first. (Instrument cluster has one large wing-nut holding it on
in the back) I would also recommend disconnecting the battery as well to
prevent shorting anything out under the dash while maneuvering the
assembly out. Hope that helps, attached is a pic of the assembly so you
can see what you're dealing with.

drivers side post is frozen. Also how do I get it out of the car? I
really don't want to remove the dash unless necessary.

Good luck with your wiper tranny repair. Might be able to drill & tap the broken stub for a small bolt. As for the one in the picture, as often happens on so many vintage cars, it looks like someone tossed the original stainless blade assys (which are usually refillable) and replaced them with ugly black ones!

Happy Motoring, Mark

Thanks Mark, I plan to do just that. I will need to pick up a drill bushing to align the pilot hole. but it will be straight forward, as it were. The only problem is the car is 2+ hours away from my drill press. but I have figured a way to do it in situ if I must.
