Pagoda lighting questions.

Hello all. 2 questions re: my 1970 280SL.

1) I have upgraded prior W123 cars to the Hella H-4 headlamp bulbs and have run 100W high beams with no modifications (no relays etc.) and no problems resulting. Does anyone know whether my factory wiring handle this on my W113?

2) It seems like I saw a MBCA STAR article years ago about hooking up the factory headlamp flasher wire that was left unplugged for US cars but couldn't find it in the index or in looking through my old editions. Does anyone have a reference to this article or the information it referenced elsewhere? I would like to get my flasher to work and remeber it was a relatively easy hook-up.

All help appreciated.

The main concern/problem with upgrading the lamp wattage on your 113 is the alternator, not the wiring . 113 alt were only 35 A and later versions were only 55A.
Do you have Euro headlamps now?
If so and Original, you can get H4s with P45T base that drop right in place of the Bilux lamp sockets..I recommend 65/55 w Euro lamps. I have that lamp # if needed . but you need Euros to do it.. otherwise , you can get H4 -7" seal beam replacements that take H4s. [ the Hella replacement you mention]

The flash to pass is there , it just did not get hooked up for US versions for DOT mandates.
If you look around the harness at the fuse box, you will see a white/purple wire that is Factory taped back to itself for US Export...that is Factory Euro pass/flash feed and needs to be hooked to fuse #10.

Thanks.

Great info. I have the amer. spec. lights and will probably just go with the Hellas and 55w/60w to be safe. Also, thanks for the info on the flasher. I've been spending a lot of time down there trying to fix my intermittent no stop lamp problem (on separate new post).

Follow-up question if you don't mind: I see where the rear of the fuse panel has single wires screwed to each fuse terminal. Do I insert the bare wire there or is there somewhere else that it should go into a plug or the harness downstream from terminal 10?

Thanks.

You screw onto the connection terminal under the fuse box. Just count over so you have the correct terminal.

I have also a wiring change [ not a Benz factory thing, but my own] that uses a dimmer latching relay from a VW that can be wired into the 113 stalk system that brings the high/low beam activation circuit up from the floor'foot switch to the stalk w/o loosing the pass/flash feature. Kinda nice if you have a manual trans and big feet.
Let me know if you [ or any 113 guys] want any of that info.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I have an auto so I need something for my left foot to do.
