W108 owners in Los Angeles

Just wondering how many are out there in Los Angeles who own a W108. I work in Santa Monica, and I see quite a few around.

I specifically have a 1972 280 SE 4.5, and I live in the San Fernando Valley.

Are the any meetups in Los Angeles?

Thanks. Happy New Year!

I see very few driven around since nobody wants a big comfy gasser anymore. It's good to know there are nice W108's around. We may have a diesel meet and drive sometime soon. Would you be interested?

gruder18 01-07-2008 07:59 PM

I would be interested. Please let me know. Would it be announced in the Diesel section?

I know there's a lot of diesel fans out there. As a kid, my uncle owned a 300D. I would be interested in seeing how the diesels work and perform.

One thing about diesels is that I understand that they are exmept from smog testing. Is this correct?

I also live in Los Angeles and would be interested in a w108 meet up. I drive mine daily and certainly see a few w108 s out there from time to time.

Gruder18, any pics of your car? Mabye I've seen you on the streets as I tend to keep a mental inventory of all the local vintage mercedes I see!

Anyhow, I have not posted here in a while although I've been an active viewer. My most ambitious project was to remove the front and rear battering ram bumper guards.

Hey 108ers. I too have a sweet powder blue 1968 280 SE (inline 6). I bought it last June from a family who'd had it since 1970. The car (135K original miles) is super clean and original, but I'm minting it out.

I just had brand new carpet and leather seat covers installed. I also had a modern stereo system w/ipod connection installed underneath the AC unit (ipod connection in the glove box). The vintage (although not original) Becker radio is still connected to it's single speaker on the dash. I'm planning on having the wood refinished throughout and re-painting eventually (possibily even a clor change). AC is not connected, although I have all original parts - so, that is anothe rproject to come.

What's more, the car is equipped w/a 4-speed manual transmission on the column, making it very fun and pretty unique by today's standards.

I'm in Mar Vista (near West LA). I'm open to a meet up. Let me know

Yeah but what d'ye mean about nobody wanting gasoline cars anymore?? I'm paying an extra dollar per gallon for diesel fuel around here. Heck, I'd probly swap my rust-free reasonably rare 116 300SD say for 108 280SE gasoline 4-spd sight unseen knowing the 108 is easily one of the most desirable Vintage MB built on kingpin suspension that rides like its on rails.

Nothin against the 116 ye understand but ya'll be pressed to find better highway car than kingpin suspension 110, 111, 108 Benz, far superior to balljoint suspension for roll and tracking. Heck balljoint cars were probly designed to cut construction costs instead of actually improving the ride and handling.

Let's exchange private messages, so we can determine where and when we can get together as a group.

How funny, I live in Culver City:)

I'm brand new to the forum and MBZ ownership, I recently acquired a 1967 250s from a friend of the family, original owner. 66K miles, very clean. I just had the carbs rebuilt, it took a while but the car runs great, I'm really loving driving it. Let me know when you guys have a meet.

Hey W108ers... I'm up in Palmdale (Northern LA County) 1972 280 SE 4.5 I'd be interested too.. Believe it or not there is actually a Mercedes Repair Shop which has around 20 - 25 W108s and others. It's located in Pearblossom CA on Rt 138 - Jacks

Pasadena W108

I own a silver 72 280SE 4.5 and I'm in Pasadena.
The paint's faded but it's in otherwise straight shape and has under 70K orig miles.

108 fun

I'm in Carlsbad (North San Diego) it would be great to get a 108 group maybe in OC, SD, or LA. I'm working on a 1970 108 Limousine. Should be done soon. I also have a 71 parts car with a few parts left if anybody needs any parts before I junk it.

an se with a 4 speed on the column? didn't know that was an option. had a 69 280s for many years (now deceased) which i still miss with "standard" on column - thot it only available with the "s" (maybe just on sixes, not 3.5 or 4.5 eights?

Why don't we aim for a weekend in October?

I can't believe this thread was resurrected after half a year. I'm in public accounting, so things get extra busy at work between February and April.

Michael C 09-19-2008 12:27 PM

108 get together

If we can make it toward the end of October, I'm in.

Michael
