machine shop recommendations NY / NJ area?
Hi everyone,
I'm looking to have some cylinder head work done on an m110 head. Does anyone have any machine shop recommendations in or near NY city? Jersey, Long Island or southern Connecticut would work too. I checked the good MB garages thread, but didn't find much in the way of machine shops. I need to have the head checked for cracks and a couple of valve guides and valves replaced (engine threw a rod and bent 2 valves). thanks for reading, - dave

I can give you four options off the top of my head...
1. Scott's Automotive in Lynbrook. Scott does all the work for the local mercedes, audi, and acura dealers. He will only use factory guides which will be a bit pricey, but the results are top notch. There is no finer machinist for your mercedes. Note that his shop is M-F, 8-5 or so. He is sometimes open on a Saturday morning when he has work backed up. 2. I have an M110 head + valve box he did for me about 3 years ago. While he was working on the top end, we discovered the block was bad, so we never completed the motor. (don't forget to have your valve box true'd up or else you'll have an oil leak). 3. Alvaro Gil's shop in NJ (proper name escapes me at the moment). He's a good machinist, but I am giving a personal reference here, not a professionaly one, having known Alvaro since he was 17 or so. He has a good business selling spacers that allow wheel interchanges between old and new mercedes alloys. 4. Get a used motor. They're available. Heck, I have at least four and am about to get another one. -CTH If you want to exercise either options 2 or 3, drop me an email. -CTH |
