1972 280SEL W108 - Installing tachometer

Hello Friends,

I have a tachometer from a 450 SEL. I made a holder to mount it just above the shifter on top of the transmission bump. I have the wiring correct; I tested it from the engine compartment. I need to run a wire from the coil to the interior.

How do I get a wire through the firewall? Where is the best place to get through?

I will upload some pictures when I finish installing...

Ok... Got through the firewall and connected the coil to the tachometer.

What would be the best source in the cabin for ground and constant positive?

Source for a gound can be the metal bracket under the A/C system. for a live, I would tap the ciggerette lighter.

Hi!
There is a small hole about 3/8 in diameter very close to the brake booster. your hood release cable goes through this hole. I have at least three wires running through the hole on my 108, so I can't think why it wouldn't work for you.

Riley,

I did go through the firewall where you suggested, coil is connected. I have a good ground, but the first positive thing I tapped didn't work very well... Am thinking that tapping the fuse block might be best. Going back out into the garage now. Picked a cold day to play outside...

I will try the cigarette lighter for some positive current.

Thanks for the responses. I will take some pictures when I get it buttoned up.
