Yeah... Its got a hemi: 107 Hemi-SL sold for $33,000 at Barrett Jackson

This was my fourth year in a row attending Barrett-Jackson. While walking the expansive tent-covered polo fields filled with amazing classic cars, I came upon this Frankenstein. Someone went to alot of effort with this car; the build was seamless and clean. At first I laughed, then looked closer, and was shocked by the build quality. Either someone spent a lot of time or money to bring this car to life.

That must be the car that I saw at Auburn a few years back. It was definately an orange 107 with a chrysler 426 hemi. The front end had been basically competely replaced with fabricated stuff, but it all fit under stock looking sheet metal. IIRC it had a tilt front end in which the fenders and hood all tilted forward like an XKE.

I looked in the auction results but it apparently did not sell. I never found out whether it was withdrawn or what.

If that sold for 33K someone got a car for much less than the cost to build it. I imagine the engine alone would be worth in that range.

Heh Heh!......maybe someone figured the value of the engine minus what it woudl take to remove the 107 body and discard it!

Wow.
I've seen a lot of franken107's before, and a lot (ok, all) of them look like crap.

But that one I would actually like... hell, LOVE!

After all that work, you'd think the builder would have swapped in a set Euro bumpers. I mean, its' got the Euro headlites

I noticed those battering rams too. Actually, I think the 107s look OK with the Euro bumpers, but I'm not OK working around the V8s usually shoehorned under their hoods. Chuck Taylor sold a 5-speed Euro 107 280SL for a reasonable price a few years ago. I probably should have snapped it up, but unfortunately my finances and insurance rates at the time (not to mention my still persistent lack of garage space) precluded adding any more toys to my fleet.

Happy Motoring, Mark

I would love to drive a 280 with five speed myself. There is a fellow around here who has one that I am hoping to wrangle a drive sometime. It is one of those funny things....I sold my 91 300d to him about eight years or so ago and after we consumatted the deal he said that I had sold him an 82 300d about eight years earlier.

Sometimes it is a small world.

then it's his turn to sell.

Minor footnote, the M110 motor is a hemi.

And a few years ago, at the local MBCA picnic, there was a real nice Euro 5-speed W123 280E wagon for sale. I think the guy was asking $5000, but again, I wasn't ready to invest in more toys. Oh well....sigh. I want a garage like Jay Leno's too!

So I can have a Hemi 107, without the transplant!
