Question Combination switch for a w107 from W123 or other model?

I need to replace a w107 combination switch which has the problem of turning on the high beams if slightly touched or if we go over a bump, I read here that its very common and no fix apart from getting a new one is this true?

Anyway tried to locate one but no luck, the guys at the junk yard think a w123 (twist action type for the wipers) will work while other guys think it may cause a short if plugged in so wanted to know if anyone knew if the w123 combination switch would work in the w107 or if another one from another model (w116? etc) would do the trick??? or even better anyone got a spare w107 switch??

many thanks

It probaly is the same as another model but I don't know which one. The switches look the same over a long time period but sometimes the wiring plug is different. I have bought new ones before which bolt and plug in seemingly correctly but the funciton does not work correctly.

I would start by asking my favorite parts supplier which other models might work.

I would suspect if you get one from the same year as yours you would have a pretty good chance of getting one that will work.....but I would only buy one if I could return it if it does not work correctly.

Rule I've seen over the years swapping electrics tells me if plug connexions are the same then its a GO..... longest year range electr swap I've done was 1971 w108 window switch into my 1980 w116. Shouldnt surprise anybody knowing MB and given the 116 and 108 overlapped in 1973. Ask yerself what year model chassis ran concurrent or immediately followed the 107, specially sharing the same steering wheel tree for the wiper combo switch.

But have you tried 'rebuilding' the existing switch? Could be contact/clip needs bending or something simple fell loose. Yes, we're scroungers here and thats part of the fun of owning and maintaining Vintage MB as daily driver.

The plug connections can be the same in appearance and the internal workings of the switch different. I have gotten one new bolted it on and found the wrong things blinking in different postitions of the switch.

W123 and W126 switches physically interchange, but I've had problems with the arrangement of the pins on the under dash connection.

For example, a switch from a 560SEL (86-91) will not operate a 1983 300SD correctly. It WILL physically fit, so you get to remove the steering wheel twice, or more...

I'd suspect W107 would more likely parallel the W116 cars. W114/W115 used a push wiper actuation, like a W108, not a twist.
