Anyone whom hasn't,needs to,try the K&N filter, air filter. Just put it on the 72 3.5L and you can certainly tell a difference. Yet to see if mpgs pick up. Don't know if the syn. in the rear helped, I am sure a little.

ps. I do not work for K&N Corporation.

As I upgrade I will try and share with everyone.

Best to all,

Best to all,
When you say "syn.in the rear" you don't mean "synthetic oil in the differential" do you?
I had an interesting experience on my 6.3 with Mobil-1 in the rear axle. I used it for a year or so then had an odd leak appear. Upon further investigation I found that the rubber boot on the axle had "ballooned" to over twice its normal size and rubbed against the underside of the car.It turned out to be a good thing though, I found cracks in the sliding joint(again)while I had the rear axle out replacing the boot. I had replaced the boot as part of a rebuild about 8 years before. There seems to be a compatibility issue with the rubber used for the boot and Mobil-1 gear oil.
Let me know if yours does the same.
Regards,
Randy D.

Thanks for the input, I used a syn. blend with additive. I have used syn. for years in most my autos going back 30 years, US, Japan mostly, this is my first Mercedes. I will be quick to pull that out if there is a potential problem. It is unbelievable how people take care of auto, this rear end lube has not been changed in 29 years I bet. I was flat worn out, had some slight clatter in the rear until this change. I am surprise how little materials were in the housing and old lube, not chunks and very little fine particles.
Again thanks for the input.
Tim
