Question M110 D-Jet hesitation on high speed highway & idle hunting when cold?

Hi again, went out for a drive on highway and found the car hesitate at various times for a split second, almost like a hick-up as the rpm drops for a split second then back again to normal, I also noticed it doing this at hard acceleration, could this be a starvation problem, fuel pump or filter ??- any way to check?

Secondly I have a air leak from a faulty AAV which results in the idle hunting when I warm her up but then she runs great once warmed up..anyway can anyone tell me which hose to block off to disengage the AAV I couldn't follow the hoses there is so much rubber under there - diagram would be great?

thanks BI

The M110 D-jet engine is covered in the earliest paperback manuals and the looseleaf too. The Djet system itself is section 7.4.

AAV? That acronym doesn't set off any bells.

Djet is very sensitive to vacuum leaks. So make sure the line coming off the intake that connect to the pressure sensor (looks like a old kid's top) is good, supple and clamped down.

If no vacuum leaks seem to be present, I'd consider giving the trigger points a quick cleaning. But that may not be it.

Try clamping all the hoses to the Auxiliary Air Valve (AAV) and see if that helps, they can leak...also they deteriorate and can leak through cracks, so if clamps don't help, try replacement. You can spray cleaner into the inlet of the AAV (line from the air filter housing) and see if it frees up the piston. Plugging this line will close off the source, but not prevent air leaks downstream of the valve to the manifold. If you remove the line, plug it at the AF to prevent un-filtered air entering the system.

I've seen a picture of the valve somewhere on the forum but don't remember where.

It's about 6" back from the front, on the drivers side (USA) and just below the head gasket?

Cast aluminum with two hoses and two bolts holding it to the block. Don't take it out unless you are wondering just how much coolant is in the head and radiator.

Michael
