just got a 1962 190d

poor car has been sitting for 10 years under a tree, got lizards hopping out from everywhere at me...overall its not to bad besides neightborhood kids getting to it busted out the headlights and turn signals..but anyways my biggest problem is that someone decided to take some parts out the engine compartment.. not to worried about most of it stuff like radiator hoses, fuel lines...etc.. what worrys me is that the alda is missing how vital is the alda on this car to get it running or will it run at full load with out it like the 80's models? that and if nessecary--anyone happen to have one?

Yeah,the oil filler cap...
You`ve got the simplest possible IP,with a pneumatic governor and independent lubrication...this cap serves actually as a filter...here`s how the governor operates:

Has it been open for a long time? I`d remove the pump and clean the governor housing,or you may just loosen the screws that attach the backplate to the pump and pour some oil to flush the possible dirt...Check the oil level in the IP(the hex screw 13 or 14mm next to lift pump).Fill oil thru the top hole(where the missing cap should be) till it emerges from the check hole, retighten. The oil (plain motor oil)lubricates the 2 IP camshaft bearings, the cam lobes and roller followers of pump elements....takes roughly 200mililitres.

A cap from any w110/w115,early w123 with this type of lubrication will do...plastic, red, usually...the dealer wants over 30$$.
