220S Window Handle Removal
 

I need help please, in the next day or two the bone-yard will be crushing a 50's 220S. Today I was able to save quite a few trim items but what I really want is the window cranks. I worked for almost an hour and can't figure them out. They have a spring under the handle bezel. I can push the bezel back put have no idea what to do after that. I tried to pry etc... I even tried to remove the whole assembly and the screws stripped. Please help as I can go back tomorrow and save these very elegant handles. Thanks in advance.

I seem to remember there is a spring that has a hole with a slot off to one side. Push the panel back and push the spring/ washer sideways and it allows the handle to slide off the spline.

I think this was a fairly common detail in fifties cars in the us too.

Not sure about the 50's models but in the 60s 220s the crank is held on with a screw in the center. The plastic cover trim piece slides off - you need to kind of pry it up and slide it along the crank. Then the screw which holds the handle on is exposed. When you know how to do i you can take one off in a minute.

I could easily be wrong. NHDoc is usually right about these things.

Mine have a pin through the handle and post. Take a small punch or dull ice pick and push the pin out.

Thanks for the tip Ed, on the pin I saw a "hole" yesterday. Well I'm off.
