Here's pics of my magnet. I purchased my Pertronix from Retro Rockets also.

I originally purchased the kit from Retro Rockets, as well. So I'll definitely go there for the replacement magnet. With how easily it happened to the first one, I think I'll get a couple. Not the kind of thing you want to happen on a road trip...

Thanks everybody.

You may rethink that when you hear the price. I don't recall exactly what it cost but I was a little surprised when I ordered one...I think it set me back about $30. I think the entire kit with the module was only about $80 so $30 for the magnet seemed a tad steep. Me, I kept a set of points in the trunk "just in case" so I didn't feel the need to carry spare parts for the pertronix unit.

Take it off and see if you can detect any flaws in the plastic from the injection mold process.. possible.....
If you do and it is evident, bring it to their attention and they may just give you a new one..
..but, I think they are hip to the fact that many these are just not put on with a little finese..

How would I go about ordering an slightly larger diameter magnet from Pertronix? Anyone have one in a M116 that we could compare?

How much will rust affect the installation of these magnets? I see that on your picture and from Tony H's that rust is typical on these dist. cams. I would imagine that a less than smooth shaft will cause problems with seating the magnet. Maybe you don't need a larger magnet.

It's not really rust-it just looks that way in the photo. My lobs were clean and smooth and I remember the magnet was a little tight but not so tight I was concerned. Good point about the spare points-they will get you back if the Pertronix fails. I have heard horror storys about people being stranded when their classic car breaks down.
