M110.985 Jetronic Intake manifold removal to get to the WUR
I am looking forward ( ) to removing the intake manifold so to get to the WUR on my 1977 280SE (a W116 with a M110.985 engine). The mercedes manual is not great in showing a good way to take this thing off and disconnect the fuel distributor and injection ports. I am assuming some of you guys out there have done this. Any pointers I shroud look out for? The car is practically restored now - it has been in the family since new - I am considering this to be a weekend project, about 3 hours in to remove, get to the WUR, install the unwired tools CIS unit, clean up the rust underneath, then 2 hours to reinstall.
I have my computer all set with the Unwired Tools software, so the serial port and USB port connections to the laptop ae figured out... |

I put mine on jack stands and crawled under the car. It's a pain to reach, but it's doable.

I was "looking" really more feeling at mine last weekend. It looks to be get able from top and bottom. That the top fuel fittings off from top and the electrical connector and then the rest from bottom. I am sure you can get it all from bottom.
I hate it every time I see a benz V8 and the WUR is right there staring you in the face. Why didn't the do the same for the M110. Why?? |

Done deal - got to the WUR from underneath
Got the car up on a ramp and got to the WUR. $45 from AutoZone and I had 2 plastic ramps, that got the front end up 6+ inches. NOW I can get under the car really easily and clean the 30 years of muck under it!
In an hour, I had it out, and Unwired Tools WUR installed. Got some silicone glue for some of the old vacuum fittings, and letting it dry overnight. The Unwired tools manual is pretty good in helping you out. For the 6 cylinder unit, the small servo goes upside down, but the plugs and the fuel lines fit pretty close to the original locations. Truly not worth the effort of getting to this thing from the top, unless you have a V8 - whereby the WUR is on the top part of the intake manifold Last edited by lowethwa; 03-20-2008 at 10:20 PM. |
