w115 turn signal woes
the lights work. you have to hold to handle to the left/right and hold it there for the to work, they don't click in.
is this a common problem, which parts will I be replacing?

pretty common, pull back the rubber at the base of the signal and make sure it is not binding, if not try spraying some electrical cleaner into the area while working the switch, it may just be gunked up, if not you may need to replace, which is easy the plastic sometimes fractures and the little springy thing cant do its job.

Sometimes the detents for left and right wear out over the years. If you take the turn signal mechanism out and look at the detent notches, you should be able to see the problem. A couple swipes with a small triangular file will usually square off the detent notches so they hold the lever in position.
There is an old write-up on this by Mike Tangas. You might be able to find it with a Google search.

W114/W115 used a different mechanism. Later combo switches can't be fixed as easily or cheaply. Although $24 is a lot less than new, last time I checked 5 years ago, they were $140. Jim

I got a '76 115 240D here in a yard by my house that I've been picking parts of of. Ill be more than happy to go and see if the combo switch is intact. If so and you want it, Ill pull it and ship it to you @cost (shouldnt be much at all), lemme know..
