i just rebuilt my stromberg 175 cd on my 230 74, the choke was faulty so i changed it, now the mixture is really nice and the car is running clean, when i start the car it runs fine but when it startes to heat up the idle starts to go faster and faster, what is wrong, please help

Did this just happen after the rebuild? Did you set the choke cover so it fully releases when warm? Did you replace the entire choke slider assembly or just the cover? Those carbs have so many little adjustments that you need the book or microfiche to set them up. A common problem is that people confuse the cold idle and warm idle adjustment screws(the ones that are next to each other on the same bracket). The warm idle screw is the lower of the two.

Randy D.

well on this carburator there isnt a warm and cold idle adjustment, the only adjustment for the idle is underneath the gas chamber. Anyway, i dont think it is the idle adjustment that is the problem, when the engine just starts it runs nice. can it be that the mix is to lean causing high temp in the engine and demands more air and in turn increases the rpm???

I wasn't talking about C.O. adjustment. I'm talking about idle speed adjustment. The carb should have two slot-head screws on the accelerator linkage bracket on the "aft" side of the carb to set the idle speed....or, if I'm lucky, I've fogotten everything I ever knew about Strombergs....there's always hope

so the actual idle adjustment isnt done on the carburator, it is done on the linkage to the carburator??? sorry if i am sound stupid. its just that this carburator is so alien to me, its the first time i work on carbs and of all carbs i have to deal with this one, EFI all the way, so much simpler)
