Class II receiver hitch for 280SE?
We are thinking about renting a pop-up camper for a family camping trip, and pulling it with my 79 280SE. I looked up a few weights for typical pop-up campers and they seem to be around 2500 pounds with maybe 165lb tongue weight, so the car should be able to handle that, right? Problem is no one sells a ready-made Class II hitch for it, class I only, and that's cutting it a bit close since Class I is rated only at 2500 lbs. Anyone have any ideas?

I search and found that w123's are rated for 750 kilograms (1650 lbs) towing an unbraked load, and 1500 kilograms (3300 lbs ) towing a braked load (i.e. a trailer that has its own brake system) I assume this is with the euro factory setup only.

I know first gear in this car could probably pull stumps. I suppose rear subframe bushings should be in tip-top shape for this kind of thing too.

Opps I read 280E spend too much time on w123 boards:
I assume it's a w116 since your on vintage board. http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.asp?TP=1&F=116024&M=110%2E983%2C985&GA=722%2E101103%2C112&GM=716%2E001006+++++++++++717%2E000&L=765%2E702&cat=040&SID=31&SA=+10996 |
