Starter problems

I've had this problem where my starter doesn't want to work when the engine is hot. Basically I have to wait for the engine to cool down for about 10 minutes before I restart the car. Anyone else have this problem?
Apparently it is common on older cars, reguardless of make/model.

Anyways, it wasn't really a problem until this weekend when I accidentally stalled out on a busy street and had to wait on the side of the road for it to cool down. I've noticed that JC whitney and some other catalogs sell a heat shield or starter "jacket" to prevent this problem. Has anyone tried one of these? Also would a starter rebuild fix the problem?

Hermant ... The problem is not a heat shield or heat in general. The problem is probably warn brushes but could be an intermittent solenoid. In any case, a good rebuild shop can identify it and repair it for a reasonable cost. You just need to bite the bullet ad pull it out. While you are at it, have your generator rebuilt for good measure.
