1978 300d black plastic thumb knob..

Hello everyone! I am new to this forum.. I live in ventura California... My name is Marc and I will be posting tons of questions.. I just bought a 1978 300d. I have been reading through threads but was wondering what is the black plastic thumb screw on the dash.. left side of the steering wheel is? Mine was stuck so I pulled it out and noticed a cable, not electrical connections on it.. I got it to move but what does it do? Thanks in advance..Marc

I think your referring to the Idle up adjuster.... Should have slightly increased the idle speed when turned.

Yes, this is the Idle Speed Adjust. Turn it all the way Counter Clockwise for highest idle. Good for starting. Especially when it's a bit colder out. Once the engine warms some turn it clockwise to lowest idle. I turn mine all the way in the spring/summer. Sometimes less when it's colder, you will "hear" the proper idle speed.

idle speed/cold start

Just make sure to depress the throttle a tad while turning this lever, so as not to stretch your cable.
