Removing rear view mirror? w113
Could some one tell me how these things come off, I'd like to replace mine. Looks like you just pry it out, but want to check before I break something.
1971 280sl 113 pagoda Thanks, Andy |

If its like the 115 and 123s you just grab the stalk firmly and yank it out.

Inside mirror or outside mirror?
Removing just the glass or the whole assembly? Happy Motoring, Mark

It is a ball socket/spring attachment so that it breaks away in an accident.
So, it yanks off at the stem. Outside mirrors are not Rear View , they are Side View mirrors..RH/LH.

When a guy says he looked into his rearview mirror , it is a good assumption which mirror he is looking into....but technically, they are all Rear Views..

Yes, its the inside rear view, and do want to remove the whole thing, I have a replacement. which is why I thought I could just yank it, but hate to make a mistake.
Thanks for the help |

are you sure about that? why would an engineer want to break away in the event of an accident? That doesn't sound very safe. I removed mine (in a w123) to swap the headliners and I hung from it since it would not budge.

The inside rearveiw mirror on my '84 Honda was the same way, except the mounting plate was plastic and one-time use only, requiring a new mounting plate if someone removed the mirror. A PO had put sheetmatal screws through mine after breaking the mounting plate, but I found a later version in a salvage yard that had a re-useable plate. As for removing one from a Mercedes, often after so many years the grease on the spring loaded detent pins dries up, they get very stiff and aquire a death-grip on the mounting plate. I tried to pop the inside mirror off a Pick-N-Pull 300D to get a spare, but after pulling and beating on it with my fist, I gave up. Happy Motoring, Mark
