1972 300SEL 4.5L MAP and ECU in harmony?
Please don't laugh too hard at my lack of knowledge, this is my first benz, and I am climbing my way up the learning curve.
I've got the rail fuel pressure at 2 bars with a 3/4 tank of gas. Fuel filter is new. Now please, correct my assumptions, as my technical literature makes no menion of either; The MAP is the device in the center of the firewall, adjusted by a hex wrench? The ECU is that vinyl covered module by the right head lite (ECU is Engine control unit?) and has that little wheel you can turn with your fingers. The car is running good, but I'd like to give up some power for some fuel economy. I don't have a CO2 sniffer. Any tips on how to adjust the MAP and ECU to maximize fuel economy? Previous owner said to hook up a vacuum gage (I have one) and rotate the distrubutor with engine running, for max vacuum. But at what RPM do I do this? Do I want to do this? thank you, as always, Baron |

Here's a link to the W116 service manual. Pick the early year 450SE/L because the engines are the same as yours.
