1967 200D Fintail Column Shifter

I tried yesterday for a couple of hours to figure out how to put in the bushing down the shifting linkage at the floor. I took apart the linkage at the firewall, and I couldn't figure it out. I did tighten the linkage and it has made a big difference. I tried to take it apart from the steering wheel, but didn't want to pry on things until I was sure.
What is the proper way of taking apart the steering lingage to put in the bushing?

I think you have to remove the linakge box

It's been a long long time since I've done this, but my recollection is that you have to remove the little aluminum box housing the shift linkage bellcrank/ball-joint assy from the firewall. I think it's held in with four nuts that fix it on studs. I think the nuts are on the firewall side, but it could be the other way around.

Anyway, the bushing is pressed into that little housing on the side that is pinned against the firewall.

You can tell if the bushing is loose, or more likely completely gone, by wiggling the shift rod down low where it extends toward the firewall alongside the steering column. If its got a a fair amount of wiggle, then the bushing is shot.

If you do this bushing, you should also do the one up at the top. It's very easy once you get that linkage off.

You'll have to deal with R&R of a couple of spline joints to take the box off.

The bushings are very cheap.
