I stand corrected, maybe.
As I said I put a Meyle mechanical pump on; it let the gas into the crankcase.
Today, I realized I didn't "T" the Holley fuel presure regulator return port to the exising fuel return line. Instead I had plugged the port, and the only fuel returning was from the carb. Meyle mechanical pump= 6-7 psi Holley fuel presure regulator set at 3.5 psi (for the Weber). Perhaps all that extra presure had nowhere to go, except past the diaphram, into the crankcase. Two steps forward, One step back.
