114 250ce no start
hello, car is a UK model 1970 250CE with electronic fuel injection.
the car has been sitting for about 6 years, tried freshly charged battery, 20 litres of fresh fuel, cranks over but not getting any fuel to engine. Can't hear the fuel pump working. Checked the fuel pump relay fuses, and wiring where I could. Anyone got any suggestions? cheers...

That engine has the same FI set up as your 280SE 3.5. You should hear the pump buzz for a second or two when you turn the key. If you can't then I suspect that either your fuel pump is gummed up or not getting any power. You can try jumping it to see if you can make it work.
If it's gummed up, it may be expensive to replace, I would suggest soaking it in parts cleaner to see if you can loosen it up. I miss my RHD 250CE.

hi, thanks for the reply... do you think it might also be the fuel pump relay(s)?
There seems to be 2 of these from what my Haynes manual says, mounted near the fuse box. I was thinking of bypassing them to see if a faulty relay is the problem but not sure which pins to use?

Before you bypass them check the circuit to see if they are engaging.
Pin #30 is the "hot" feed. It should be live at all times but may be interconnected. Pin #85 is ground or earth. Check for continuity. It also can be used as a "trigger" i.e, for the auxillary fan circuit which activates by the sender going to a "ground" condition when the engine reaches the proper temperature. Pin #86 is the "trigger" from the ignition. It should activate when the key is turned to the "run" position. It only triggers for a short time until it receives input from the control device. Pin #87 is the output to the device. To test the relay, make sure you have earth continuity to pin #85 and jumper a "hot" wire to pin #86. The relay should click and transmit power to pin #87. |
