Swing axle brakes

Does anyone know how swappable the brakes are from one swing axle to the next? My w111 sedan has discs in the front and finned alloy drums in the rear, which is a fantastic setup except for the fact that one of my drums is warped and the prices on these are outrageous due to early SL folks snatching them up to replace their steel unvented drums. (I don't blame them - the brakes are quite nice)

Can I go the other way and use steel drums on my car?

Alternatively, if I have access to a complete w109 with a rear disc setup, how possible is it to swap for the rear discs? Are the masters any different? I know that the boosters didn't change... Would I have issues mating up the lines to the calipers?

The W109 rear axle uses air suspension and is not directly swappable due to no central compensating spring. It's best to go with a W108 axle to get the discs.

If you go with a disc diff., you also have to get the rear proportioning valve to make them work correctly.
Also, the emergency brake cables are different.
The best rear for that car would be a 3:27 out of a 108- 280SE/SEL 4.5. You would then get a lower rpm at cruise and makes it a whole new car.
They are still around, but getting rare b/c all the 113 guys are grabbing them up now.

Thanx guys, didn't realize the w109's had no center spring...

Guess I'll be sticking with the drums till a w108 comes along.

Last week I spoke with Mike Parlatto who was saving a 280SE rear before tossing a parts car with the intention of selling it. He's in NJ near trenton and should be a findable guy. If you can't find his contact info, drop me an email. -CTH
