1978 300d hub caps

Hello all!

I have been looking... do they make hub caps or a original part that just fit sover the center of the rim? I don't want the ones with built in trim rings. I saw a 300d I was not sure of the year and it appeared to just have hub caps on the center of the rim. Just checking.. thanks .. marc

They must have done some mods to the hubcap, they didn't make it any other way than what you have on your car.

My '62 190c had center hub caps held on by three knobs on the wheel. It was 13" wheel. The bigger cars had the 14" wheel and full wheel covers. If you took a set of 13" rims you could cut off the knobs and weld them on your rims, maybe and use the little caps.

They were really clean looking.

There are a few models that had the small hubcaps with 14" rims.

Nineteen sixty eight is the year that the full 14" wheelcover came standard. These are the same from 68 thru the end of use in the eighties.

Anorak fact: Early versions were steel with chrome plating, later versions were made of stainless steel.

Now, if you really want the small cap with a 14" wheel, you'll need to find a set of wheels from a 230SL, 250SL, 250SE or a 300SE, all 67 or earlier.

Thirteen inch caps will fit a 14" wheel.

Or, you could find a set of 13" wheels and drill out the rivets for the three spring loaded retainers, and remount on the 14" wheel.

How bad do you want these?

Do a little calculating and put the right size tire with proper aspect ratiuo on your 13" Heckflosse rim. If the tire diameter is the same, your speedo will work the same and everything will match. I made a detailed chart so give me your tire and rim size and I can tell you immediately

If you have 14" bundt cake rims and want to trade for 13" heckflosse rims with the protrusions on them, we can do that maybe. You don't want the earlier spring clip rings which are for pontons, because they are more expensive, and hub caps do fall off those.

Let me know with a private message withb a phone number.

I'd be curious if 13" rims would interfere with the suspension/brakes....
