1968 280 El
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to drive a 1968 280SL with a four speed manual. Need I say more?

Maybe a late '69 but I dont think they had the 2.8L in '68. Even the 2.3L or the 2.5L was a hoot to drive.

Thank you Arthur. I didn't know they had the 2.8L in '68. Now I know, not that I'll ever have the chance to find and restore one.
Come to think of it, I would hate to have to deal with twin Zeniths (with their known dislike for heat) under the hood of the SL with it's heat issues (at least here in Tucson). Oh well, glad to hear you got to drive one. They'd be great fun to play with. We have some fantastic mountain roads down here in southern AZ which just cry out for a SL. |

All the 113 chassis [ 230/250/280] were Mechanical Fuel Injected, so no carbs..
...cool car, specially one with manual trans. They also had a rare optional ZF 5 speed w/OD... but not many of those around.

Damn it Arthur! Now you've got me thinking about one. I actually know where there are two waiting for some sucker, err, I mean "enthusiast" to cough up the bucks to purchase them. I never looked at the engines because every one I've known here in Tucson overheated. On the M130 that means warped heads. They were both automatics if I recall but I could be wrong.
